Some itchy head truths

Dandruff?

Scratchy head?

The flaky, itchy truth!

That embarrassing white flaky stuff that appears on your scalp and
finds its way to your shoulders and needs dusting off... Dandruff,
dry, itchy or flaky scalp can be caused by various conditions. It's
vital to try understand your scalp condition so it can be treated and
give you some relief.

As horrible as this sounds, dandruff is basically dead skin
cells.....Yep, in a nutshell.. Sorry!

Just like dry or oily skin on your face and body your scalp is no
different. Its an embarrassing norm that at least half of us will
experience at some point.
So just like dry skin your scalp gets dry and irritated and flakes too.

Why?

Dandruff occurs for numerous reasons, when your scalp is either
irritated, lacks moisture, over produces oil, or if you're suffering
from various skin conditions, like dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, and
so on. (Sometimes in extreme cases this will extend to the bearded
area on a mans face and forehead)
Our natural oils help to moisture our hair and scalp and sometimes,
for whatever reason, either due to regular and overuse of products,
like hairsprays, shampoo or dermatitis and climate change.. etc,  its
stripped of its natural oils, is producing too much oil which can also
cause scalp flaking and dandruff. So its simply your scalps way of
saying 'HELP AND FIX ME PLEASE!!' It's that simple and it does need to
be treated.

There's so many ways to treat and prevent dandruff and itchy scalp.
Over the counter shampoos and medications if needed. It's really
important to note, if your scalp has a lot of redness or extreme sores
with open areas, forms scales and red patches it is really important
to visit your G.P. Your scalp needs to be taken care of and a healthy
scalp, is vital for healthy skin and hair growth.

Itchy and no dandruff?!

Just talking about head lice is usually enough to make us itch at the
mention of those little hair invaders. Head lice can be traumatic and
an absolute nightmare to get rid of.
More commonly transmitted among children, adults aren't immune! So
take care and check yourself when someone in your household arrives
home with those unwanted guests! Although an incredible nuisance, they
don't pose any risk to your health, apart from being irritated and
itchy. Acting fast and treating lice with over the counter treatments
is so important to stop them as they spread so quickly and get out of
control.
Remember, they're only small and very common, and you can defeat them!

So, there's no ones hair the same as yours, and it's important to
understand its needs so you can find the best solution for you to have
the best hair you deserve!

Healthy scalp, Healthy hair, Healthy you!
